Bash and the Pirate Pig Book Giveaway

I think I might have finally found a book for my son to read. A book he might actually read. Fingers crossed. Does anyone else have a son between the ages of  8-14 that feels like they are losing a never ending battle to get them to READ? This is hard for me. I am a reader.

"Bash and the Pirate Pig, by Burton Cole, is the story of a cranky city kid named Raymond "Beamer" Boxby who must spend summer vacation at his younger cousin, Bash's, farm. Beamer prefers air conditioning and video games. He can't see what good can come of this so-called country fun that includes riding cows, river rafting with a pig, or playing with skunks. But hang tight, Beamer, because Bash's zany adventures with his "Fishin' and Farmin' book" (The Bible) just might lead to the coolest discovery of all."

The book which releases September 1, 2013 cracks me up. It is so much like how my son sometimes acts when he goes and visits my hometown. He is such a city boy. Cow Tipping? Dairy Drive Thru? Anyone? I will never forget the time my Daddy wanted him to go check the wells (oil) and my son wouldn't go because he thought the wells were killer kinfolk to Free Willy. LOL!

Not only did I get a copy of this book to read, but I also get to give one to my readers. Who wants it? All I want to know is this. The blessed boy who you give or read this book to, is he a City Boy or a Country Boy? Answer in a Disqus comment then go to the Rafflecopter form to input entry. Bonus entries are available.

The Sharpest Tip Ever. A Pencil Sharpener Giveaway.

Raise your hand if you read my post about The Quietest Classroom Pencil Sharpener on May 23 and then entered to win one on June 4? Well my friends I have a wonderful surprise for you. I have teamed back up with Troy Decoff, the owner of Classroom Friendly Supplies again to give away another one. Troy Decoff, is an elementary school teacher himself. He first started selling these sharpeners after realizing that many fellow teachers were also completely fed up with the loud and inefficient pencil sharpeners that they had in their classrooms. Oh I remember those terrible, noisy, messy manual sharpeners, the only ones that truly work when sharpened.

My winner gets to choose what COLOR they want: Firehouse Red, Groovy Green, Cool Blue, Midnight Black, or....
...the brand new color PRECIOUS PINK!!!

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness month and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Classroom Friendly Supplies is committed to contributing to the local and global community. For each Precious Pink Pencil Sharpener that is purchased, Classroom Friendly Supplies will donate $1 to cancer research and awareness.

The donations will be split equally between Caleb's Crusade and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Want to see the sharpener in action? Take a look at my Vine. I cannot say enough about this sharpener. I love school/office supplies and this is beyond my favorite.

And if that's not enough, here is an extra pic to prove.

Check out that tip! Now who wants it? I just have THREE easy mandatory entries. Leave a comment telling me where you will use this sharpener and like Classroom Friendly Supplies and The 4-Crow's on Facebook. Bonus entries are available. Be sure to put all your entries on the Rafflecopter form. Open to U.S. residents only.

Back To School 2013-14

Yay! School started today. I look excited in the above pic don't I? All joking aside,  I we are ready for some routine. I saw a picture like this on Pinterest and had the neighbor boy snap the photo quickly yesterday morning while we were having fun with the camera. I like to do that. He only snapped the camera twice.

I'm not going to bore you with ALL the shots I took. Those are on Facebook if you are my friend/family. Here are a few.

They are both growing so fast. I love these kids. Don't tell, but my house was a little too quite this morning, well at least until the 8 month old baby I watch woke up! Then the fun began.

I pray that my children have a wonderful 2013-14 school year. I pray that their light shines wherever they go and with whomever they come in contact with. They are both wonderful World Changers.

#Tagxedo Word Art

I HEART word art. My high school friend posted a pin on FB the other day about a program better than Wordle.net. Better than a Wordle? I must try. It is. I can get my art into shapes now. So excited. The program is called Tagxedo. Look at the one I just made. Can you say frameable?

Warning: Just like Wordle. Tagxedo is addicting. You can and will get lost in creating and designing.

Have fun!

Alone Yet Not Alone Book Review & Giveaway

I admit, I love young adult books. I love getting lost in historical books. Any opportunity I get to read and pass on to my son, nephews or niece is a bonus. I don't get that opportunity often. I particularly like when the book is based on a true story and shows faith and perseverance. FlyPropeller sent me the above book to read and I also get to give one away to a blessed reader.

Who Wants It?

About Alone Yet Not Alone (novelization):

"Settled in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania, deep within America's new frontier, the Leininger family celebrates the blessings of a beautiful homestead and bountiful harvest. That is, until tragedy strikes with the beginning of the French and Indian War and the devastating raid known as the Penn's Creek Massacre.

The lives of this simple, God-fearing family are forever altered when Barbara and Regina, two young sisters, are carried away by the Delaware tribe. Driven by their faith in God and the powerful bonds of family, Barbara and Regina hold firmly to the belief that they are never alone, even in their darkest hour, and that they will be reunited again.

Rich in historical details, Alone Yet Not Alone is an inspirational, true story of a family caught in the cross fire of the French and Indian War."

On September 27, 2013 the movie version of Alone Yet Not Alone releases in theaters. How cool is that? The book includes several pages of pictures from the movie. I can't wait, it does appear to be coming to two theaters in the Tulsa area. Families will love this film based on a true story! The film has been awarded 5 Doves from the Dove Foundation! Starring: Kelly Greyson, Natalie Racoosin, Clay Walker, Jenn Gotzon, Joanie Stewart, Ozzie Torres and Tony Wade.

Our VisionHub Kiosk Experience

A couple of weeks ago, I told you about a very exciting announcement in the Tulsa area.

VisionHub now has a kiosk located in the CVS location at 9122 S. Yale Ave. Tulsa, OK 74137. VisionHub was created to give patients a new option for prescription eyewear.

As a new self-serve, interactive eyewear kiosk, VisionHub provides consumers with an easy way to purchase prescription glasses for just $99. At the in-store VisionHub kiosk customers can try on and choose a pair of frames, enter their prescription and place an order for a new pair of glasses that will be shipped for free directly to their home. It’s easy and convenient, and comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and a one-year warranty.

I have two family members who wear glasses ALL the time my husband and son, a lot of you probably don't know this, but I also have glasses. I probably should be wearing mine all the time as well instead of choosing to wear them when I drive on long trips or when I feel like it when I read.

I also told you we were adding glasses to our back to school shopping. We visited the kiosk last week. It was a fun and EASY experience.

Online glasses can be a great value, but you can't try on frames to make sure you are getting the look you want. We found the look our family wants and then some at VisionHub. They had over 75 options available and I don't feel like I spent a fortune.

For more information be sure to read my prior post here or visit the following links.

Oklahoma Women Bloggers Challenge #1: About Me

Hi everyone! So today I am writing my first post on my brand new computer. Actually I am not going to write. I'm going to VLOG- that's video blogging. My first one. I am being challenged by Oklahoma Women Bloggers to get in front of the camera to tell you a little about ME. Anyway, my new computer has a camera- WooHoo- yeah I was a little behind. I used Movie Maker to film and edit my VLOG then had to save it as an mpeg, then uploaded it here onto YouTube, seems kind of difficult, but only certain formats are accepted on Blogger.  The one thing about when you start Vlogging, is you must know what to use and how to do it. You can use YouTube also, but for me the sound was awful. Okay, I'm gonna quit typing.....
Be sure to visit OkWB and link up your VLOG.

The Crafty Crow: I Made a Chalkboard

I wanted a chalkboard. For my kitchen. One that I could write cutesy messages on, maybe even a planned menu. I had seen all the ones floating around on Pinterest that were DIY, cut this board, that board, hammer this and that. I am not one to go to that extreme. Or even have certain tools to accomplish that task. I decided that I wanted to upcycle. Time to go into junk gypsy mode. I decided a mirror would be fun. My friend's husband found two matching mirrors at a garage sale for $5 each. He isn't the type to talk the seller down so my mirror ended up being $5.

I have to show you now my finished project, then I'll tell you the HOW.

WaaLaa....

This is the chalkboard paint to use. $3.97 at Wal-Mart. I also used another can in matte Burgundy for my frame. Same price. You will also need some painters tape.

It would have been 100x easier if I could have separated the mirror and frame on this project. It was a no go. So I had to tape it off. I did the chalkboard paint first. DO NOT let your daughter get grass seed in it. I let it dry then had to sand out the grass seed (this was just an extra totally unecessary step), then I sprayed another coat of chalkboard paint. I let it dry overnight. The next day I sprayed it with the burgundy. Let it dry. Then took the chalkboard paint and lightly sprayed/misted/dusted it over the entire surface. Then to distress it, I took the sandpaper that had the chalkboard paint on it from the previous day and went over all the edges. I love the the black and brown contrasts throughout the mirror.

Wanna see my new chalkboard again?

Before using, you will need to season. Just take the wide side of a piece of sidewalk chalk and then erase. I chose to use Chalkboard Markers on mine. I do not want chalkboard dust in my house to clean up. These markers wipe off easy with a wet towel. You can get the markers at Hobby Lobby for $12.99, but remember you can use a 40% of coupon!!!
My friend hasn't made hers yet. Can't wait to see it. Do you have a DIY chalkboard project? Leave a link and show it off.
