Clarence the Nutcracker Turkey Disguise and Story by Miss K

Miss K's latest 2nd grade assignment was a Family Turkey Project. Attached to the instruction sheet was a paper turkey. We were to help this turkey make it safely past Thanksgiving by disguising him. We had to think of something unique or special to our family and disguise him accordingly.

These were the directions we had to follow:

  • Cut out the turkey.
  • Decide how to disguise him and have fun.
  • Return to school no later than November 14th.

We had a LOT of fun with this project. We used cardstock, glitter and paint to help disquise the turkey. Special thanks to this site for help on the nutcracker cutout. I had to reduce it in the copier to 75 percent of size, and then I actually used my cricut to cut out the face, nose and eyes (I can't cut a perfect circle even if a pattern is given to me.)

Miss K did a great job of cutting, pasting, and WRITING. Here is the story she had to write in the perspective of the turkey.

Hi! My name is Clarence. I am a turkey. I heard my farmer tell his kids that I am going to be Thanksgiving dinner. Yikes. I think I should run away and join the ballet.

My friend K is going to be in the Nutcracker this year. She is going to be a mouse. K loves nutcrackers. I will dress up like one and go to her practice. I need glitter, paint, a hat, a buckle, and a coat.

When Clarence went to Nutcracker practice with K, Miss Pam gave me the part of the Nutcracker. That is how I escaped Thanksgiving Day dinner.

Have you ever helped disguise a Turkey? What was the disguise?

Today's Post...

Kaybrie at her Thanksgiving Feast at school!
...is at The RHOK!

Today The RHOK kids are "cooking" up Thanksgiving Dinner.
See how they "think" its done. I've also included some recipes from 1984, from my 1st Grade teacher. Thanks Mrs. Chaney!

My kids have a few ideas, but thankfully I will be sending them out of the kitchen this  particular Thanksgiving for any of you who might be concerned.

Kaybrie age 5-  Little Cornbread Muffins...one box of cornbread, one box of milk, crack an egg- don't put the shell in. Put them in Mommy's big mixer bowl. Grab a big spoon. Mix it up. Grab a small spoon and put in Grandma's little muffin pans. Then let Mommy put it in the oven until its finished. I'm not allowed to touch it when its hot.

Perfect Pairings: Faith, Family, Friends & Freedom-Thanksgiving 2011

The RHOK

Our Thanksgiving theme this year became Faith, Family, Friends and Freedom!

We originally had planned on a small Thanksgiving of just the four of us and my MIL at her house.
My MIL insisted that she cook, with my assistance at her house.
Five weeks ago she broke her foot and found out last week that it is STILL broke. She wheels around on this little scooter like a pro all over her house, foot propped up in that confining boot contraption! Bless her heart!
Her kitchen is very functional and she did allow me to set the table, carry items to the table, make the deviled eggs, my Crow Bars, and of course help her during the preparations of some of the other foods.
Thanksgiving dinner turned out wonderful.
We even ended up extending an invitation of dinner to special friends, and they accepted.
Kaybrie's ballet teacher and my friend Pam and her two youngest girls, Chloe and Sophia ate Thanksgiving dinner with us.
Pam's husband Charlie has been in Iraq. He found out last week that he would be home before Thanksgiving. When I found out on Wednesday that he had been delayed and still had not left Iraq and that Pam and the girls were going to be alone, I extended the invitation. However, it took the phone call from my mother in law to convince her to sit at the dinner table! What a blessing it was for our family to do something for someone else during Thanksgiving.

“Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever”.
 Psalm 106:1

The blessings around our Thanksgiving table were immense.

1. Faith- thank you Jesus for dying for us and we can only try to be like you each day!
2. Family- so thankful for each member of our family and our health!
3. Friends- thankful that we got to share our Thanksgiving with friends!
4. Freedom- thankful for our country and that a soldier and other soldiers are coming home!

Oh, and here are the posters we made for Charlie's homecoming...which BTW, he should be seeing about now!!! (Sunday night November 27th 7-8pm)

MckLinky Monday: Thankful for Food

The RHOK

What? Me? Thankful for food...not a bit, you can't tell by looking at me, and sorry folks you WILL not be telling by looking at my plate this Thanksgiving holiday. Yes, I am just a wee bit on a dieting trend and I'm going to be a braggart- doing very well at 15lbs lost since Labor Day! Yes, I will eat, but only one plate and ONLY the foods that I absolutely MUST have. Turkey breast, cornbread dressing with a little giblet gravy, green beans, a roll and a salad! I will also make my famous Crow Bars-my family can't live without these! Now there is a story behind these. Don't I always have a story? Six years ago when Jason finally got brave enough to call and ask me out, I was busy making these for my staff at the bank, I of course had to change the name from K-Bars to Crow Bars once we married and he got a great many sampling of them! Whoever said the way to a man's heart was through his stomach must have known what they were talking about, because believe me, I am thankful for so many great and wonderful meals I have shared with my husband these past six years, and look forward to many, many more years of meals!

Crow Bars

1T butter
1/2 C white sugar
1/2 c white syrup
3/4 c peanut butter
3 c crushed cornflakes
1pkg milk chocolate chips
1pkg butterscotch chips

Bring butter, sugar and syrup to boil. Add peanut butter and cornflakes, mix well. Press into 8 1/2 x 11 pan. In double boiler melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. When melted pour over cereal mixture. Let cool. Do not Bake! Cut into squares. Can be doubled, but I do not double the chocolate chip mixture, it is too rich! Use a big cookie sheet if you double!

Now it's your turn to share what food you are thankful for and link up at The RHOK, thank you Mrs. Priss for hosting and having everyone share their great recipes today!
