Bash and the Pirate Pig Book Giveaway

I think I might have finally found a book for my son to read. A book he might actually read. Fingers crossed. Does anyone else have a son between the ages of  8-14 that feels like they are losing a never ending battle to get them to READ? This is hard for me. I am a reader.

The book which releases September 1, 2013 cracks me up. It is so much like how my son sometimes acts when he goes and visits my hometown. He is such a city boy. Cow Tipping? Dairy Drive Thru? Anyone? I will never forget the time my Daddy wanted him to go check the wells (oil) and my son wouldn't go because he thought the wells were killer kinfolk to Free Willy. LOL!

Back To School 2013-14

Yay! School started today. I look excited in the above pic don't I? All joking aside,  I we are ready for some routine. I saw a picture like this on Pinterest and had the neighbor boy snap the photo quickly yesterday morning while we were having fun with the camera. I like to do that. He only snapped the camera twice. 

 I'm not going to bore you with ALL the shots I took. Those are on Facebook if you are my friend/family. Here are a few. 

They are both growing so fast. I love these kids. Don't tell, but my house was a little too quite this morning, well at least until the 8 month old baby I watch woke up! Then the fun began. 

I pray that my children have a wonderful 2013-14 school year. I pray that their light shines wherever they go and with whomever they come in contact with. They are both wonderful World Changers.

I HEART word art. My high school friend posted a pin on FB the other day about a program better than Wordle.net. Better than a Wordle? I must try. It is. I can get my art into shapes now. So excited. The program is called Tagxedo. Look at the one I just made. Can you say frameable?

Warning: Just like Wordle. Tagxedo is addicting. You can and will get lost in creating and designing.

Oklahoma Women Bloggers Challenge #1: About Me

Hi everyone! So today I am writing my first post on my brand new computer. Actually I am not going to write. I'm going to VLOG- that's video blogging. My first one. I am being challenged by Oklahoma Women Bloggers to get in front of the camera to tell you a little about ME. Anyway, my new computer has a camera- WooHoo- yeah I was a little behind. I used Movie Maker to film and edit my VLOG then had to save it as an mpeg, then uploaded it here onto YouTube, seems kind of difficult, but only certain formats are accepted on Blogger.  The one thing about when you start Vlogging, is you must know what to use and how to do it. You can use YouTube also, but for me the sound was awful. Okay, I'm gonna quit typing..... Be sure to visit OkWB and link up your VLOG. 

The Crafty Crow: I Made a Chalkboard

I wanted a chalkboard. For my kitchen. One that I could write cutesy messages on, maybe even a planned menu. I had seen all the ones floating around on Pinterest that were DIY, cut this board, that board, hammer this and that. I am not one to go to that extreme. Or even have certain tools to accomplish that task. I decided that I wanted to upcycle. Time to go into junk gypsy mode. I decided a mirror would be fun. My friend's husband found two matching mirrors at a garage sale for $5 each. He isn't the type to talk the seller down so my mirror ended up being $5. 

I have to show you now my finished project, then I'll tell you the HOW.

This is the chalkboard paint to use. $3.97 at Wal-Mart. I also used another can in matte Burgundy for my frame. Same price. You will also need some painters tape.

It would have been 100x easier if I could have separated the mirror and frame on this project. It was a no go. So I had to tape it off. I did the chalkboard paint first. DO NOT let your daughter get grass seed in it. I let it dry then had to sand out the grass seed (this was just an extra totally unecessary step), then I sprayed another coat of chalkboard paint. I let it dry overnight. The next day I sprayed it with the burgundy. Let it dry. Then took the chalkboard paint and lightly sprayed/misted/dusted it over the entire surface. Then to distress it, I took the sandpaper that had the chalkboard paint on it from the previous day and went over all the edges. I love the the black and brown contrasts throughout the mirror.

Before using, you will need to season. Just take the wide side of a piece of sidewalk chalk and then erase. I chose to use Chalkboard Markers on mine. I do not want chalkboard dust in my house to clean up. These markers wipe off easy with a wet towel. You can get the markers at Hobby Lobby for $12.99, but remember you can use a 40% of coupon!!!
